Jubileum event ZJA at AFFR

Recently Theater LantarenVenster in Rotterdam was all about the annual architecture filmfestival AFFR. Architectural studio ZJA sponsored this year a film for the 5th time and organized a special event on 5 October.

Virtual and physical spaces

Arav Kumar (architect and 3D specialist at ZJA) gave a presentation about the latest virtual possibilities and its impact on architecture.

In the ever-evolving world of architecture, where innovation and design intertwine, a new frontier is emerging—one that promises to redefine not only how we build and inhabit spaces but also how we navigate the digital landscape. ZJA stands at the forefront of this transformative journey, as we embark on a research and development (R&D) venture into virtual spaces and the profound implications they hold for the future internet and the architecture.

Jord den Hollander

After architect and filmmaker Jord den Hollander showed that manipulation of spaces has been playing a role since the early years of the film and is in that sense of all times. At the end he showed his newest release ‘Twin Cities Almere.’ A portrait of a group of Chinese architects who is so under the spell of Almere that they build an exact copy of this ‘Dutch New Town’ in China. Which also let the residents of Almere see their own city through different eyes.

About the AFFR

AFFR explores since 13 years the relationship between film, cities and architecture by programming and screening architecture films and by organizing introductions and debates. The festival is annually organized in October in Rotterdam. Do we meet you there next year?

On October 11, AFFR will organize an extra screening of the latest short film by festival curator Jord den Hollander, Twin Cities Almere, at 8:15 PM.
