The team including Omgeving, ZJA, Atelier Ruimtelijk Advies and Witteveen + Bos wins the design competition for the sports park Heizelplateau in Brussels.
In the design, existing sports facilities are restructured and new facilities are introduced. The sports clusters are integrated in the landscape, and will be provided with an attractive public park area.
The sports park will include a running track, Finnish ski slope, football -, rugby - and hockey fields and the largest public water playground in Belgium. The sports park will have an underground parking garage that can accommodate 200 cars. The current sports building will be thoroughly renovated and given a new look. The architectural design also provides for a new clubhouse for the hockey club.
In the design, special attention has been paid to the smart use of the great differences in the terrain level. As an example, sports clusters are embedded and an open water cascade is created to collect water coming from the terrain and bring it into vision.
