Marta grew up in the city of Warsaw in Poland. At school she enjoyed drawing, dancing, playing her guitar and also discovered her love for mathematics and science. An uncle and aunt, both architects, took her on a round trip through Sweden and Finland to visit architectural highlights. This convinced her that architecture was a way to reconcile her artistic and scientific interests. She did a bachelor in architecture in Warsaw.
At TU Delft she studied for a masters degree and graduated with a design for a social housing project using parametric design to combine standardized wooden modules with the function of customization. The idea was to build affordable and sustainable housing that created a diverse, high quality neighborhood with gardens, all made possible by an open source application. She also gathered experience with robotics and 3D printing.
She came to ZJA because of the opportunities to explore parametric design and the intersection of structural engineering and architecture. She is currently excited to discover the world of infrastructure by doing research for new projects and working on a bicycle bridge.
"There is a special type of complexity involved in the design of roads, viaducts and bridges. Not just of a technical sort. There are regulations, there are historical things, ecological issues and the special demands of different forms of traffic."
Her favorite sport is bouldering, but most of her spare time goes into dancing. Not on Saturday night in a club, but for a student dance company performing modern dance. Marta is also the choreographer and is busy preparing a showcase for a theatre performance.
