The lightrailstation in The Hague, a design by ZJA Zwarts & Jansma Jansma Architects, is nominated for a German Design Award 2019.
The eye-catcher of the lightrailstation in The Hague is the curved glass roof over the platforms. An expressive column-free canopy above the new walkway forms the connection with the Hague Central Station. In the urban context, the transparent and vaulted grid functions as an inviting gesture. The fully transparent roof allows daylight to enter and in the evening a starry sky of lights illuminates the platforms and entrance area. The lightrailstation has transformed the formerly gloomy rear of The Hague Central Station into an attractive entrance that welcomes travellers to the city.
The winners of the German Design Award 2019 will be announced in August.
