After months of hard work, it’s finally time: The “Blauwe Klap" in Assen, designed by ZJA, will be inaugurated on December 11, 2015, after which cars and bicycles can start using the bridge.
The bridge will be opened by Alderman Harmke Vlieg from the city of Assen.
Though the bridge is now finished, some roadworks in the surrounding area are still ongoing. After the opening of the bridge, main contractor Van Hattum and Blankevoort will start with removing a temporary roundabout.
East of the bridge, old sewers and cables are still to be found in the underground. These too will be removed, after which the area will be finished off.
At the southeast side of the bridge, final sewer works are taking place, after which this area will be finished off too.
Finally, pending the need for a short period of fine weather, final asphalt coatings will be laid and road markings applied.
All work should be completed by mid-April 2016.
“Blauwe Klap”
The completion of the “Blauwe Klap” is an important milestone for the new boating route of the “Blauwe As”. This project is now halfway finished.
In 2016 and 2017, work will continue on the Weiers Bridge, the Groninger Bridge and the construction of the 2nd lock (Lock Havenkwartier), also designed by ZJA.
The boating route will open in 2017. For more information, see www.florijnas.com.
